The Non-Human Student Organization, a campus club for fans of
science-fiction, fantasy, gaming, and Japanese animation, or "anime",
hosts NonCon (also known as "No Such Convention") at Vassar College in
Poughkeepsie, NY on the weekend of February 27-29, 2004. NonCon is a
convention that aspires to bring together many divergent interests in
the "geek" field, and reflects the widely divergent interests of the
members of the NSO, and the convention-going population at large.
divergent activities are planned to entertain each kind of fandom. In
the past, discussion panels have ranged from authors discussing their
works to open forums on role-playing experiences. There will be an open
anime viewing room, showing classics as well as more obscure series.
Also open all weekend will be the "Open Gaming Room", well stocked with
a plethora of board, card, dice, and other table-based games. During
the convention, role-playing games in systems as diverse as Advanced
Dungeons and Dragons, World of Darkness, M-Force, GURPS, and Live
Action Role-Playing will be offered.
There will also be a
dealer's room, where past offerings have included comic books, role
playing games, fandom-related buttons and bumper stickers,
fantasy-themed jewelry and more.
The guests this year will be
announced in the future. Previous guests have included the authors
India Edghill, Rosemary Edghill, Kurt Lancaster, and Tony Ruggiero, the
game creators Jason Marin and Googleshng, the voice actor Jamie
McGonnigal, and representatives of Zenforfree Productions, a Hudson
valley based movie studio.
